One of the Biggest Dangers for Kids Lives in the Sky

Protecting Children from Sun

Don’t be fooled thinking you are just protecting your kids from stranger danger, drowning or bullying when they go to the pool or outside in general.

One of the dangers that are present at all times is UV rays which can cause illness or death.

Protective Clothing

Making sure your child is covered by clothing alone reduces UV rays and provides protection from the sun. In fact, it reduces your exposure to UV rays by up to 27%. If you plan to spend the day outside, make sure your kids keep their clothes on!

Sunscreen

Not all sunscreen is made the same. All parts of their bodies, especially parts that clothing is not present should be protected with sunscreen. Different types of sunscreen require application at different intervals throughout the day.

Be sure you read the labels and follow them, as well as, paying attention to what activities they are suited for. If they are not waterproof, you’ll need to apply them each time your child jumps in and out of the water if you happen to be at the pool or where they get wet.

Other sunscreens must be applied about every 45 to 65 minutes to avoid sunburn. Even if the sunscreen has a high rating of SPF – reapply often and liberally. Many times the number of hours it lasts as listed on the bottle is extremely subjective.

Avoid Peak Sun

The suns rays are most dangerous between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. If possible, make plans to spend time outdoors with your children in the early morning, late afternoon or evening. This alone will avoid exposure to some of the suns rays, although you should still apply sunscreen and make use of the other tips above.

Providing proper protection to your children is one of the easiest ways to protect them from harm. From what clothing you dress them in and when you go outdoors can all make a huge difference in the amount of exposure they get to harmful elements from the sky. The sun.

Other threats that you worry about every day often take precedence over what is right in front of you. The sun is one of those things that is often overlooked and can cause more damage over the lifetime of your child than most other dangers on Earth.
